My experience with vidIQ Support
Hey guys, I have something to share with you. Does this make sense?
The service called vidIQ has removed the URL method for clipping features, now only supporting a small horizontal scroll for recent videos with an upload button.
So, naturally, I used the help chat and initially got a bot. After a lot of conversation, I managed to get in touch with a human operator. They claimed they removed the feature for sustainability reasons due to platform constraints, emphasizing that the decision wasn't made lightly and acknowledging the inconvenience. They kept suggesting downloading and uploading the content. I had to clarify that my workflow is limited by storage constraints, both on my Google account and locally, so everything gets deleted after uploading and remains on YouTube's database. This is why the URL pasting method for clipping was useful. I then pointed out that their optimize tab had four videos per section, with multiple sections, offering more content visibility. Mimicking this with a clipping button instead of optimize buttons would be smart, as it aligns with their sustainability goals since clipping is just API work in the background, and they already pull from YouTube. Uploading is just directly uploading to their database.
Now, they've decided to escalate this for a manager review, which will take longer, especially outside business hours. So yeah, using my developer status, I managed to get a simple help desk agent to escalate after the bot had already escalated me to a human. I even used corporate buzzwords like CRM and content delivery service. It's frustrating. I understand if it's likely due to regulatory issues, like if someone misuses the feature to clip someone else's content without permission. That would explain the removal. But using Google's authorization system to provide a direct authorization token for content access means they could have simply added a clipping feature with a full list of your content and a quick button. It's well within their API and UI design. Correct me if I'm wrong about the API, but it seems logical. Anyway, I'll keep everyone updated on this issue. Thank you.
